University Music

University Music

The Lindenwood University Music Program is committed to preparing our students with the skills, musicianship, technological understanding, and entrepreneurial tools to succeed in diverse careers as 21st century music professionals. Together we strive to provide our students with the experience necessary to understand and define the craft, business, and teaching of music. Each evening performance highlights a different discipline within our music program. A wide variety of musical styles provides entertainment for all audience members. All the concerts are free, and ticketed events will be labeled.

Band and Orchestra

Lindenwood University bands offer multiple opportunities for students wishing to continue their musical experiences after high school. Athletic and concert ensembles are available each semester to all students regardless of major. The Lindenwood University Symphony Orchestra performs music from the 17th century to today. Our repertoire features a broad range of music that represents both famous and lesser-known composers, all presented in an educational and entertaining format. Most importantly, we are a community group that features adult and high-school musicians along with our Lindenwood students – anyone can join us in making wonderful music!

Choirs

Lindenwood University choirs offer a variety of musical experiences for all who may choose to attend or participate. Our auditioned choirs include Select Treble Ensemble, Concert Choir, and Voices Only, the premier a cappella ensemble of the university. Our non-auditioned University Chorus meets one evening per week and is open to all choir alumni or community members who wish to sing!

Jazz and Contemporary

Lindenwood University jazz orchestra is committed to performing literature that includes the jazz masters like Duke Ellington and Count Basie. Additionally, the ensemble explores current composers that are paving the way for the future of jazz orchestra music, including Maria Schneider and Alan Baylock. Endeavor, the experimental and progressive improvisation ensemble, features original compositions and includes students and faculty performers. A product of the Music Business & Entrepreneurship program, the Modern Music Ensemble represents a broad spectrum of commercial music from the last 40 years with a 21st century perspective. The Guitar Ensemble produces a unique texture using multiple guitars and performs arrangements of the classical, jazz, pop, funk, and rock genres.

Chamber and Small Ensembles

Chamber music ensembles vary throughout the year and can include String, Percussion, Woodwind, and Brass ensembles. These ensembles typically perform compositions from the canon of traditional western music. Additionally, 20th and 21st century chamber music, along with original arrangements of contemporary music, are explored.
